Fighting Heart Scholarship

Lake Travis Women's Basketball Booster Club

"Fighting Heart" Memorial Scholarship Award

Presented in Memory of

Annick Morris

DESCRIPTION:

One $500 scholarship will be awarded each year to a girls varsity basketball player who has achieved a high level of success on the basketball court, in the classroom, and in her community. Iain and Alison Morris will increase the amount of the award to one $1000 scholarship, by personally donating an additional $500 each year. The scholarship is awarded to the recipient for their continued education at an institution of higher learning. The scholarship is awarded in memory of Annick Morris — a dedicated student and athlete at Lake Travis High School from 2009-2013.

Annick Morris was a 2013 graduate of Lake Travis High School, where in addition to her studies, she played Lady Cavs Basketball for all 4 years of high school. Her senior year, Annick was awarded 1st Team All District, Defensive Player of the Year, and Lady Cav of the Year. She was a student at The University of Texas at San Antonio studying Computer Science. Annick was an enthusiastic member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Annick is survived by her parents, Alison and Iain Morris, and her big brother, Scott. No one had more enthusiasm or enjoyment for life than Annick.

IMPLEMENTATION:

The beginning of each basketball season, the coaching staff will show the video produced by Iain Morris for the 2012-2013 season. This will describe the character qualities exemplified by Annick and her Lady Cavs teammates.

APPLICATION:

Lake Travis Lady Cavs varsity athletes and/or graduating seniors will be considered for the scholarship. Applicants will submit a one page essay to the coaching staff describing a life lesson they learned from their involvement in the Lady Cavs Basketball program.

SELECTION:

Selection will be made by the coaching staff based on the six character traits, that not only Annick exemplified, but that are the hallmark of the Lady Cavs basketball program. These traits are: determination, dedication, commitment, resoluteness, resilience, and courageousness. In addition, the coaching staff will consider those applicants who demonstrate a commitment to high academic ideals and involvement in community service.

PRESENTATION:

The recipient will be announced at the end of season basketball banquet.

FUNDING:

In 2016, the Lake Travis Girls Basketball Booster Club was awarded an initial donation from Annick Morris’ friends and family, in the amount of $3650, to start the fund. The Lady Cavs basketball team shall fundraise each year to contribute to the fund. A minimum of $250 shall be designated by the Booster Club at the end of each basketball season toward the continued funding of this Fighting Heart Memorial Scholarship; thus creating a perpetual scholarship. This designated money cannot be used toward anything other than the Annick Morris Fighting Heart Scholarship. Iain and Alison Morris will personally donate an additional $500 each year.

Dave Hart Memorial Scholarship

Lake Travis Women's Basketball Booster Club

"From the Hart" Award

Presented in Memory of

Dave Hart

DESCRIPTION:

One $1000 scholarship will be awarded each year to a girls varsity basketball player who has made key contributions to the personality and spirit of the Lady Cavs basketball team. Dave’s family will donate $1000 each year; the scholarship can be increased or additional scholarships added through booster club donations. The scholarship is awarded to the recipient for their continued education at an institution of higher learning. The scholarship is awarded in memory of Dave Hart — a dedicated father and Lady Cavs basketball fan.

Dave Hart was a dad to two Lake Travis Lady Cav athletes, Isabel (2020) and Brooke (2022) Hart. He was an avid basketball fan, from playing as a high schooler, to playing pick-up games with family and friends, to watching his favorite college (LSU!) and pro teams. He was most in his basketball zone when coaching and watching youth basketball teams – he coached Brooke’s LTYA teams for years as well as multiple LTYA boys teams. He was a fierce competitor but also had a gift for identifying the best qualities in every single player he coached on the court. When watching the Lady Cavs he would do the same; after games, he would make sure to find players individually and boost them up with a positive observation about their play, often something that went unnoticed by most. Dave fought hard, but lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in the fall of 2019.

APPLICATION:

Lake Travis Lady Cavs varsity athletes and/or graduating seniors will be considered for the scholarship. No application is necessary.

SELECTION:

Selection will be made based on character traits that Dave admired in players and exemplified himself. In particular, this scholarship should identify players who encourage their teammates and highlight their strengths, while also showing dedication and passion for the game and program. In addition, consideration should be given to the player’s commitment to high academic ideals and to their family and community. The coaches will facilitate a vote and/or other input and finalize the selection.

PRESENTATION:

The recipient will be announced at the end of season basketball banquet.
